Overall survivability and seakeeping ability:
Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
51,219 lbs / 23,233 Kg = 25.0 x 16.0 " / 406 mm shells or 9.6 torpedoes
Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1.02
Metacentric height 5.0 ft / 1.5 m
Roll period: 18.4 seconds
Steadiness - As gun platform (Average = 50 %): 83 %
- Recoil effect (Restricted arc if above 1.00): 1.18
Seaboat quality (Average = 1.00): 1.65
Hull form characteristics:
Hull has rise forward of midbreak
Block coefficient: 0.657
Length to Beam Ratio: 6.24 : 1
'Natural speed' for length: 24.74 kts
Power going to wave formation at top speed: 44 %
Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 50
Bow angle (Positive = bow angles forward): 4.00 degrees
Stern overhang: -2.00 ft / -0.61 m
Freeboard (% = measuring location as a percentage of overall length):
- Stem: 27.00 ft / 8.23 m
- Forecastle (20 %): 25.00 ft / 7.62 m
- Mid (67 %): 25.00 ft / 7.62 m (17.00 ft / 5.18 m aft of break)
- Quarterdeck (15 %): 17.00 ft / 5.18 m
- Stern: 17.00 ft / 5.18 m
- Average freeboard: 22.52 ft / 6.86 m
Ship tends to be wet forward
Ship space, strength and comments:
Space - Hull below water (magazines/engines, low = better): 78.8 %
- Above water (accommodation/working, high = better): 142.6 %
Waterplane Area: 46,261 Square feet or 4,298 Square metres
Displacement factor (Displacement / loading): 100 %
Structure weight / hull surface area: 202 lbs/sq ft or 986 Kg/sq metre
Hull strength (Relative):
- Cross-sectional: 0.93
- Longitudinal: 1.79
- Overall: 1.00
Hull space for machinery, storage, compartmentation is excellent
Room for accommodation and workspaces is excellent
Ship has slow, easy roll, a good, steady gun platform
Excellent seaboat, comfortable, can fire her guns in the heaviest weather

The next step: US/BB/1916
I may have advanced to the 16in gun too soon, but that is what the US/BB/1916 carries. I increased the armour basis to 14in and the guns to 8-16in BLR. You may not have noticed, but these ships have a 15 knot cruising speed for a range of 6,500nm. I increased the freeboard, as Springsharp complained about being wet forward, which is still the case, even with a one foot increase. The light AA gun for the US seems to have been the 0.50in MG, so that is what these ships have. This is the Springsharp report:
