The F/CA/1927 design
The F/CA/1927 design has a 33-knot top speed. That is the main improvement in this design. The machinery is not very lightweight, as it is 33.8 SHP/ton, which is sub-par. This is caused by the feature of Springsharp that the machinery tends to be heavy for the date. I tried to compensate for that by adjusting the machinery date, but I hesitated to have too great a gap between the date laid down and the machinery date (although I often resort to that very thing, a great difference). In any case, the result is a hard-hitting, well-protected modern armoured cruiser. This is the Springsharp report:
