Overall survivability and seakeeping ability:
Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
26,588 lbs / 12,060 Kg = 19.4 x 14.0 " / 356 mm shells or 5.8 torpedoes
Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1.21
Metacentric height 6.0 ft / 1.8 m
Roll period: 15.4 seconds
Steadiness - As gun platform (Average = 50 %): 61 %
- Recoil effect (Restricted arc if above 1.00): 0.42
Seaboat quality (Average = 1.00): 1.22
Hull form characteristics:
Hull has rise forward of midbreak
Block coefficient: 0.615
Length to Beam Ratio: 5.00 : 1
'Natural speed' for length: 21.21 kts
Power going to wave formation at top speed: 52 %
Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 50
Bow angle (Positive = bow angles forward): 0.00 degrees
Stern overhang: 0.00 ft / 0.00 m
Freeboard (% = measuring location as a percentage of overall length):
- Stem: 23.00 ft / 7.01 m
- Forecastle (20 %): 20.00 ft / 6.10 m
- Mid (50 %): 20.00 ft / 6.10 m (12.00 ft / 3.66 m aft of break)
- Quarterdeck (15 %): 12.00 ft / 3.66 m
- Stern: 12.00 ft / 3.66 m
- Average freeboard: 16.24 ft / 4.95 m
Ship tends to be wet forward
Ship space, strength and comments:
Space - Hull below water (magazines/engines, low = better): 83.0 %
- Above water (accommodation/working, high = better): 116.8 %
Waterplane Area: 30,047 Square feet or 2,791 Square metres
Displacement factor (Displacement / loading): 97 %
Structure weight / hull surface area: 166 lbs/sq ft or 809 Kg/sq metre
Hull strength (Relative):
- Cross-sectional: 0.92
- Longitudinal: 2.13
- Overall: 1.00
Hull space for machinery, storage, compartmentation is excellent
Room for accommodation and workspaces is adequate
Good seaboat, rides out heavy weather easily

The Ger/CDV/1915 coast defense battleship design
When I just put the Ger/CDV/1915 coast defense battleship into Springsharp, my design goal was to make the weights and power match those in my paper specification and sketch from the early 1970's. I adjusted the gun caliber to see if I could get close to the armament weight. I adjusted the machinery date to get close to the 27 SHP/ton machinery weight. I adjusted the speed to come close to the specified 25,000 SHP. THere is no speed mentioned, just the power and machinery weight. This is the Springsharp report:
