Overall survivability and seakeeping ability:
Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
3,656 lbs / 1,658 Kg = 33.8 x 6.0 " / 152 mm shells or 0.8 torpedoes
Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1.08
Metacentric height 1.5 ft / 0.5 m
Roll period: 13.9 seconds
Steadiness - As gun platform (Average = 50 %): 53 %
- Recoil effect (Restricted arc if above 1.00): 0.37
Seaboat quality (Average = 1.00): 1.02
Hull form characteristics:
Hull has rise forward of midbreak,
an extended bulbous bow and a cruiser stern
Block coefficient (normal/deep): 0.515 / 0.523
Length to Beam Ratio: 10.98 : 1
'Natural speed' for length: 21.21 kts
Power going to wave formation at top speed: 62 %
Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 52
Bow angle (Positive = bow angles forward): 11.00 degrees
Stern overhang: 2.00 ft / 0.61 m
Freeboard (% = length of deck as a percentage of waterline length):
Fore end, Aft end
- Forecastle: 17.00 %, 23.00 ft / 7.01 m, 22.00 ft / 6.71 m
- Forward deck: 16.00 %, 22.00 ft / 6.71 m, 22.00 ft / 6.71 m
- Aft deck: 52.00 %, 14.00 ft / 4.27 m, 14.00 ft / 4.27 m
- Quarter deck: 15.00 %, 14.00 ft / 4.27 m, 14.00 ft / 4.27 m
- Average freeboard: 16.71 ft / 5.09 m
Ship tends to be wet forward
Ship space, strength and comments:
Space - Hull below water (magazines/engines, low = better): 119.2 %
- Above water (accommodation/working, high = better): 137.6 %
Waterplane Area: 12,463 Square feet or 1,158 Square metres
Displacement factor (Displacement / loading): 109 %
Structure weight / hull surface area: 71 lbs/sq ft or 347 Kg/sq metre
Hull strength (Relative):
- Cross-sectional: 0.93
- Longitudinal: 1.94
- Overall: 1.00
Hull space for machinery, storage, compartmentation is cramped
Room for accommodation and workspaces is excellent

The GB/CL/1914 design study
I have a sketch design from the early 1970's for a variant of the British C-class light cruisers. the side armour is very limited and of 2in thickness. The deck armour is 1in, but is a complete deck. the guns are 4-6in/50 QF guns and there are 8-21in TT. The look is very much like a C-class ship, except the speed is 32 knots. The idea was to get a higher speed in exchange for lighter protection. This is the Springsharp report:
