Overall survivability and seakeeping ability:
Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
56,941 lbs / 25,828 Kg = 65.9 x 12.0 " / 305 mm shells or 11.0 torpedoes
Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1.27
Metacentric height 8.3 ft / 2.5 m
Roll period: 15.3 seconds
Steadiness - As gun platform (Average = 50 %): 86 %
- Recoil effect (Restricted arc if above 1.00): 0.42
Seaboat quality (Average = 1.00): 1.72
Hull form characteristics:
Hull has rise forward of midbreak,
a ram bow and a cruiser stern
Block coefficient (normal/deep): 0.538 / 0.547
Length to Beam Ratio: 6.10 : 1
'Natural speed' for length: 25.30 kts
Power going to wave formation at top speed: 47 %
Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 50

Ship space, strength and comments:
Space - Hull below water (magazines/engines, low = better): 73.6 %
- Above water (accommodation/working, high = better): 202.1 %
Waterplane Area: 46,374 Square feet or 4,308 Square metres
Displacement factor (Displacement / loading): 119 %
Structure weight / hull surface area: 174 lbs/sq ft or 848 Kg/sq metre
Hull strength (Relative):
- Cross-sectional: 0.93
- Longitudinal: 1.82
- Overall: 1.00
Hull space for machinery, storage, compartmentation is excellent
Room for accommodation and workspaces is excellent
Ship has slow, easy roll, a good, steady gun platform
Excellent seaboat, comfortable, can fire her guns in the heaviest weather

The GB/BB/1909 design study
Late in the Blue Book, I have sketched a battleship and written specifications for a ship with 9-12in/50 BLR and 8-6in QF guns, a speed of 24 knots, and a belt with a 13in lower part and a 9in upper part. The SHP was estimated to be 63,000 for the 24 knot speed. I designed the ship in Springsharp 3.0b2 and the ship worked extremely well:
