This is a photograph of my friend Cliff's design for a fast 1905 battlecruiser, the GB/CB/1905. Two ships were to be built: the Essex and the Sussex.
This photo very accurately represents the surviving pencil drawing of the ships, dating from the early 1970's. The ships carried 4-12in/45 and 9-6in/50 guns. The armour basis was 4in. The designed speed was 33 knots. They depended upon lightweight machinery to be a viable design.
