The 2002 version of the Ger/CB/1905 design

I did a series of drawings in the summer of 2002 for the British and German ships in our 1971 building program game. One was the Ger/CB/1905 battlecruiser. I tried to see what could be done in Springsharp, and the design worked pretty well with 17.6 SHP/ton of machinery weight. I followed the original concept and used oil fuel. To achieve that, the machinery date is 1907. This is the Springsharp report:

Overall survivability and seakeeping ability:
Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
   20,423 lbs / 9,264 Kg = 23.6 x 12.0 " / 305 mm shells or 2.4 torpedoes
Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1.37
 Metacentric height 6.2 ft / 1.9 m
 Roll period: 13.5 seconds
 Steadiness - As gun platform (Average = 50 %): 68 %
   - Recoil effect (Restricted arc if above 1.00): 0.31
 Seaboat quality (Average = 1.00): 1.36

Hull form characteristics:
Hull has rise forward of midbreak
 Block coefficient: 0.544
 Length to Beam Ratio: 8.75 : 1
'Natural speed' for length: 26.46 kts
Power going to wave formation at top speed: 53 %
 Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 50
Bow angle (Positive = bow angles forward): -1.00 degrees
 Stern overhang: -1.00 ft / -0.30 m
Freeboard (% = measuring location as a percentage of overall length):
    - Stem: 33.00 ft / 10.06 m
