This is based on my 18 July 1973 drawing and design for the Ger/CB/1905. I wanted to keep to the specifications contained there and only extrapolate as needed. I had looked at higher speeds, up to 32 and 33 knots. The basic characteristics remained the same. I had to up the machinery year to achieve the weights originally specified:
Hull: 8,070 tons
Machinery: 3,000 tons
Protection: 5,895 tons
Armament: 515 tons
Misc: 1,520 tons
Oil Fuel: 3,500 tons

Overall survivability and seakeeping ability:
Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
31,989 lbs / 14,510 Kg = 37.0 x 12.0 " / 305 mm shells or 4.4 torpedoes
Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1.22
Metacentric height 5.1 ft / 1.6 m
Roll period: 14.8 seconds
Steadiness - As gun platform (Average = 50 %): 73 %
- Recoil effect (Restricted arc if above 1.00): 0.43
Seaboat quality (Average = 1.00): 1.46
Hull form characteristics:
Hull has rise forward of midbreak
Block coefficient: 0.487
Length to Beam Ratio: 8.75 : 1
'Natural speed' for length: 26.46 kts
Power going to wave formation at top speed: 53 %
Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 50
Bow angle (Positive = bow angles forward): -2.00 degrees
Stern overhang: -1.00 ft / -0.30 m
Freeboard (% = measuring location as a percentage of overall length):
- Stem: 33.00 ft / 10.06 m
- Forecastle (20 %): 29.00 ft / 8.84 m
- Mid (64 %): 29.00 ft / 8.84 m (21.00 ft / 6.40 m aft of break)
- Quarterdeck (15 %): 21.00 ft / 6.40 m
- Stern: 21.00 ft / 6.40 m
- Average freeboard: 26.44 ft / 8.06 m
Ship space, strength and comments:
Space - Hull below water (magazines/engines, low = better): 107.7 %
- Above water (accommodation/working, high = better): 229.6 %
Waterplane Area: 36,866 Square feet or 3,425 Square metres
Displacement factor (Displacement / loading): 121 %
Structure weight / hull surface area: 137 lbs/sq ft or 669 Kg/sq metre
Hull strength (Relative):

- Longitudinal: 1.67
- Overall: 1.00
Hull space for machinery, storage, compartmentation is adequate
Room for accommodation and workspaces is excellent
Ship has slow, easy roll, a good, steady gun platform
Good seaboat, rides out heavy weather easily
